What can flexischooling look like?

"We don't need to reinvent education, we need to reimagine how it can be done." - Kirstin Coughtrie

My first class of the day is at 5.30 GMT. Today period 1 is in Jeddah, period 2 in Moldova. At 'break time' I make my own children their sandwiches, tidy away breakfast dishes and wave them out the door to attend the primary school across the road from me in Salisbury, UK. Period 3 is a cover lesson for a school in Birmingham and I'm able to set an independent lesson for a student who doesn't feel well enough to attend a session live. In the 'afternoon' is a global assembly hosted in Michigan, USA for our Climate Action Schools Project and I watch one of our students present to others joining from Taiwan, India and Uganda. I dance in my kitchen as I make myself lunch, having traversed the globe and been inspired by kids from age 4 to 19 and I'm still wearing my slippers. I draft and post this blog in less than 10 minutes with the help of ChatGPT and have goosebumps as I follow up enquiries with my co-founder to set up meetings with schools from around the world who want our help to build them the tech to support the kind of flexischooling that I've just described.

My children burst through the door at 3.20pm and I can be mummy to them in the afternoon and evening. When my own kids have needed periods of flexischooling I've been able to provide it for them despite being a single working parent.

The secret is to reimagine education, and this is how...

Flexischooling is a modern approach to education that is becoming increasingly popular as it allows students to have more control over their learning and achieve their full potential. Flexischooling can be done using the Gaia Learning platform, which is accredited to offer the Cambridge Pathway, a global curriculum designed to prepare students for life.

The Cambridge Pathway is delivered in over 10,000 schools in 160 countries around the world and it is now available to students online with the support of Gaia educators. This means that students can have a first-class education wherever they are, even if they are homeschooling. The courses offered on flexischool.io are designed to stretch, challenge and inspire students of all abilities. The platform provides students with deep subject knowledge, conceptual understanding and higher-order thinking skills, which are essential for success in life.

One of the main benefits of flexischooling is that it allows students to learn at their own pace. This means that students who are struggling with a particular subject can take the time they need to understand it, while those who are excelling can move ahead faster. Additionally, flexischooling allows students to have more control over their learning, which helps students to take ownership of their education and feel more motivated to learn.

Another benefit of flexischooling is that it allows students to have a more personalised education. This means that students can learn at their own level, in a way that suits them best. The Gaia Learning Library, provides students with a wide range of resources and materials that are tailored to their individual needs. The platform also offers students the opportunity to work with a team of experienced educators who can help to support and guide them throughout their learning journey.

Flexischooling also allows students to have a more flexible schedule. This is especially beneficial for students who are homeschooling or who have other commitments such as sports or music. The Gaia Learning Library, offers students the flexibility to learn at any time, and from anywhere. This means that students can fit their education around their other commitments, making it easier for them to achieve a balance in their lives.

Finally, flexischooling is beneficial because it allows students to have a lifelong love of learning. The Cambridge Pathway curriculum is designed to help students develop an informed curiosity and lasting passion for learning. The Gaia Learning Library, is committed to equipping parents, teachers and communities with the resources to engage young learners and ensure a solid foundation to their education.

Now, some of the questions that parents may have in mind when considering Flexischooling with Gaia Learning platform are:

Will this prepare my child for the skills they'll need for life?

Yes, flexischooling with Gaia Learning platform will prepare your child for future learning and the skills they need for life. Your child will develop higher-order thinking skills to apply what they've learned, including: solving problems creatively, thinking for themselves, doing their own research and communicating it, and working with other people on a project they've designed together.

Will this suit my child's learning style and ability?

Each child is unique and deserves a personalised learning experience. Your child's needs as a learner are at the heart of our approach to education. The course content will guide you to develop learners who are: confident in working with information and ideas – their own and those of others, responsible for themselves, responsive to and respectful of others, reflective and developing their ability to learn, innovative and equipped for new and future challenges, engaged intellectually and socially, ready to make a difference

Will this suit my family?

Only you know what your family needs to thrive. The current education system works fine for many, but if it doesn't work for you then you know there are alternatives like Gaia Learning.
